​The Sam Houston Percussion Academy is an immersive 4-day event featuring masterclasses, clinics, recitals, hands-on workshops, classes, and performances presented by internationally renowned percussionists and educators in a relaxed and encouraging environment. The Academy promises a comprehensive study of the percussionist's art that is both musically and intellectually stimulating, encompassing an array of activities and instruction.

Hosted on the campus of Sam Houston State University and featuring a diverse faculty of the finest artists at work today in the world of percussion, the Sam Houston Summer Percussion Academy offers two tracks of study:

Tracks of Study:

Collegiate Track (Applicants over age 18)
  • Performance/Research: Focus on contemporary percussion repertoire, new works/collaborations with composers, chamber music rehearsal and performance strategies, intensive studies in percussion history and literature, and workshops on movement for musicians (Tai Chi and Eurhythmics).
  • Career Development/Creativity: Workshops on creativity, entrepreneurship, practice, and career development.

High School Track (Applicants in grades 9-12)
  • Features instruction on all percussion instruments including snare drum, percussion ensemble, world percussion, drumset, marimba, timpani, and all orchestral accessories.
